We came into documentary making through a side path. Being somewhere that is not quite home charges a careful observer with the need to tell and to show. It was during our stay in Mexico that we started to make stories about what we saw happening around us: rural villages transforming to semiurban suburbs. Then and thereafter, our focus has been on the people caught in processes of change. That can be anywhere: On the High Atlas in Morocco, in the sertão of Northeast Brazil, as well as in Indian slums (see Projects for topics and dates, and Publications for what we made of it). Working independently is a conscious choice. It gives us the freedom to occupy us with topics that do not appear in the news headlines and to choose our approach freely. It gives us the freedom to do slow work. Paul studied Physics at the Technical University Delft, while Elisa took her degree in Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University. We are based in the Netherlands.
